LOS ANGELES (AFP) - American singer Lance Bass, one of the five heartthrobs of the boy band 'N Sync, has revealed that he is gay, People magazine said. "I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything," Bass, 27, told People. "I didn't know: Could that be the end of 'N Sync? So I had that weight on me of like, 'Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it's bad.' So I just never did," he said. "The thing is, I'm not ashamed -- that's the one thing I want to say," Bass said. "I don't think it's wrong, I'm not devastated going through this. I'm more liberated and happy than I've been my whole life. I'm just happy." 'N Sync -- Bass, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake -- were one of the most popular boy bands that emerged in the 1990s with a legion of teenage fans. Their album "No Strings Attached" sold 2.4 million copies in one week in 2000. The group went on hiatus in 2002 as Justin Timberlake launched a solo career. news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060727/en_afp/afpentertainmentusmusicpeoplegay_060727191205

Yes, we're all very shocked by this. Who could have guessed? ;D I usually don't think it would matter, but in their case it probably would have if it had come out sooner. The majority of their fan base was teenage girls because they thought they were cute, and that probably would have bothered them. Don't ya just love the People magazine cover though? A pic of him with "I'm Gay" in big letters. He didn't just come out of the closet, he ran out, holding a big sign. Seriously, I'm not making fun of him for being gay or anything, but the way it's supposed to be a surprise and the magazine cover and all is kinda funny.
